What is Remedial Massage?
Remedial massage provides a healing treatment that can be gentle or strong, deep or shallow. When muscles and tendons become damaged, impaired, knotted, tense or immobile, remedial massage provides an effective healing treatment.
Remedial massage holistically treats the whole body and traces the discomfort as far as possible back to the original cause, healing both the cause of the disorder as well as the symptoms.
If you haven't ever experienced a quality remedial massage, I thoroughly recommend it.
What to expect
Remedial massage therapy will often involve an assessment of the client in order to isolate the muscles that are functioning incorrectly and identify muscle and postural imbalances.
A remedial massage will involve the use of oils and/or creams, which is applied directly to the skin. The use of oil or cream ensures the muscles associated with the disorder are deeply penetrated. It also means the individual will be unclothed during the massage and will be covered by towels to protect your privacy and to keep you warm.
Remedial massage incorporates the use of a number of different techniques to locate and repair damaged areas of the body. The techniques used are based on the client’s needs and their response to the particular technique. Often deep tissue, swedish, sports and trigger point techniques as well as reflexology and gentle lymphatic drainage when required. Stretching techniques and range of otion are used at the completion of the massage treatment.
Benefits of remedial massage therapy
Remedial massage therapy has a number of therapeutic benefits. Remedial massage works to increase circulation and blood supply, allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed. Soft tissue techniques also increase the blood supply to damaged nerves and, in turn, assist in the recovery and repair of injuries.
Remedial massage therapy helps reduce stiffness and swelling and also works to relax and strengthen the muscles. Remedial massage therapy works to improve joint mobility and contribute to an overall feeling of relaxation and wellness. It is also beneficial in pain management by relieving tension and spasm in the muscles.
